Meet the Ciclos Major Team: Your Guides to the Ultimate Mallorcan Cycling Experience
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist chasing summits or a leisure rider out for cappuccino-fuelled exploration, our team of cycling guides in Mallorca has you covered. At Ciclos Major, we believe cycling in Mallorca isn’t just about the ride—it’s about the people you ride with. Our guides bring diverse backgrounds, high service standards, and a shared love of all things two-wheeled. They’re as happy to discuss Mallorca’s rich culture and hidden gems as they are to talk gear ratios and world politics. Expect engaging conversations, expert navigation, and a whole lot of pedal-powered passion.
Our team includes both female and male guides, with ages ranging from 26 to 66. Prefer a relaxed ride through almond groves or want to tackle the iconic climbs of the Serra de Tramuntana? You can choose your favourite guide—or mix and match to experience them all.
Darryl Leese
Founder of Ciclos Major and our go-to guru for the scenic backroads of Mallorca. Darryl typically leads the ever-popular Cappuccino group—especially during the buzzing spring season. With over 15 years of experience, Darryl knows every twist and turn on the island, including the hidden lanes most locals have forgotten. When he’s not guiding, he’s orchestrating the magic behind the scenes—handling bookings, transfers, and ensuring your stay with our Zafiro Hotels partners runs like a well-oiled chain.
Liz Rooney
Liz’s love affair with Mallorca began just six years ago, but it’s been a full-blown romance ever since. She dove in so wholeheartedly, she’s practically part of the island now. When not leading Cappuccino rides or hosting our Ladies Only groups, Liz is busy welcoming guests, coordinating bookings, and ensuring your time off the bike is just as enjoyable as your time on it.
Robbie Harcourt
Robbie has been spinning pedals in Mallorca for over three decades. A seasoned club rider and all-around cycling enthusiast, he’s happy to lead both Americano and Cappuccino groups. Mountains? He’ll tackle them—albeit with a wise nod to gravity. And if your bike needs a tweak mid-ride, Robbie’s your man—though anything involving high-tech electronics might require a group brainstorm.
Melissa Dowell
Melissa brings elite triathlon credentials to the team, including multiple Ironman World Championship appearances and a treasure trove of medals from global events. A seasoned guide in Mallorca, she’s ridden the iconic Mallorca 312 and led rides across the island. As a qualified swim coach and triathlon trainer, she’s equally at home in the pool or on the road.
Debra Peck
After eight years on the island, Debra knows Mallorca’s cycling routes like the back of her hand. A UK time-trialling veteran, she now focuses on leading Cappuccino and Ladies Only rides—always with a smile and plenty of local insights to share.
Al Spurden
Al came to cycling via running and brings a steady, reliable presence to our Espresso group. He’s your man when there’s a headwind and a hill involved—and his time-trialling instincts mean he’s always on pace.
David Hunter
A retired anaesthetist and long-time club cyclist, David brings years of urban cycling grit and international touring flair to the team. Whether guiding or enjoying the draft at the back, he’s a calm and capable presence on Mallorca’s quieter lanes.
Steve Tucker
Steve’s road racing pedigree includes first-category races in the UK and Belgium, plus national series titles in Masters racing. He now channels that racing savvy into guiding, usually with the Espresso or Americano groups. He loves Mallorca’s legendary climbs and peaceful inland routes alike.
Chris Hazael
Chris’s cycling story began with a surprise roller competition and evolved into an impressive list of race results and international qualifications. A master of pacing and a champion at the Tour of Cambridgeshire, Chris brings energy and experience to every ride. Whether leading Espresso or making other groups lively, Chris adds a spark to every outing.
Bruce Mackie
Bruce wears many hats—ride leader, race organiser, team manager, and mountain bike legend. Since 2015, he’s been bringing his youth training camps to Mallorca, and he knows every corner of the island. A true multi-discipline rider (and serial bike owner), Bruce offers guidance with a side of good humour.
Mabel Edge
A rising star of the Ciclos Major team, Mabel started cycling in 2021 and hasn’t looked back. She tackled the Mallorca 312 within six months of starting and now brings her endurance spirit to guiding. Whether it’s coastal cruising or mountain climbing, her passion is unmistakable—and contagious.
Dave Fearon
Dave’s cycling history spans 45 years, with top-tier time-trial performances and a soft spot for fixed gears. He first discovered Mallorca’s charm in 1983 and now enjoys guiding Cappuccino rides with a blend of scenic appreciation and sociable pacing.
Simon Pemberton
Simon’s resume includes grueling multi-day MTB stage races and endurance podiums across Europe. Despite conquering alpine monsters like the Cristalp, he still holds Mallorca’s climbs among his favourites. A natural leader and motivator, Simon helps riders of all abilities navigate the island’s spectacular routes.
Michael Fletcher
Michael is a sportive regular turned triathlete, with Ironman finishes to his name—most recently in Hamburg. As a new Ciclos Major guide, he’s learning the ropes while supporting rides and lending a hand to our triathlon team. Expect encouragement, great company, and a well-timed coffee stop.
Jarek Oworuszko
Jarek’s sporting background began with alpine climbing and evolved into marathons, triathlons, and elite Ironman events. Since 2005, Mallorca has been a training ground and passion project for him. Now a cycling guide, swimming and triathlon coach, Jarek has led thousands of kilometres across the Serra de Tramuntana and beyond, from Petra to Sant Salvador. If it’s on the map, he’s ridden it.
Owen Vidler
Don’t be fooled by his age—Owen may be the youngest guide, but he brings serious group ride know-how. A club cyclist at heart, Owen excels at reading the group and keeping the pace just right, from Affogato to Double Espresso. His joy comes from helping others exceed their expectations—and then do it again tomorrow.
Whether you’re joining us for a leisurely coastal cruise, a spirited hill climb, or the challenge of the Mallorca 312, our experienced and enthusiastic team is here to ensure you experience the very best of cycling in Mallorca. From the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana to the rolling Artà hills, we know every road, climb, and café stop worth visiting.
Join us for your next Mallorca cycling holiday—and ride with people who love the island as much as they love their bikes.
