SAFETY

SAFETY FIRST – Because Your Enjoyment Matters Most

At Ciclos Major, what truly sets us apart is our heartfelt commitment to your safety. We carefully organise our rides in small groups, designed around your cycling goals and comfort level. That way, you can focus on the stunning Mallorcan scenery and the thrill of the ride, knowing you’re in safe hands. Here are some helpful cycling laws and safety tips to keep your holiday smooth and worry-free.

SAFE CYCLING: RELAX, RIDE, ENJOY

Cycling with us is a joyful experience—not a race. We ride responsibly on public roads, always following traffic laws. Mallorca’s charming towns and villages can be full of surprises: blind corners, tricky junctions, and narrow one-way streets. Our experienced guides will lead the group safely through these areas, so we never race or push hard through built-up zones—there’s plenty of time for that out on the open road!

Remember, you’re sharing the road with other vehicles and cyclists, so stay alert, obey the rules, and above all, ride with care and respect.

ON THE ROAD: TIPS TO KEEP YOU SAFE

  • Climbing? Always ride single file, and keep to the right side to let cars pass safely. Some roads require this by law.
  • Descending? Control your speed to match your skill level. Our guides are happy to offer tips or even lead you down the hill if you prefer.
  • At junctions? Never assume it’s safe to cross—even if someone else says so. Look, listen, and decide for yourself.
  • Riding in pairs? Stick to two abreast at most, and single out on narrow or twisty sections where visibility is limited.
  • Encountering horses? Slow down, speak up kindly, and give them plenty of space—it’s about keeping everyone comfortable and safe.

GROUP RIDING: COMMUNICATION IS KEY

We encourage friendly, clear communication among riders:

  • Call out approaching cars, obstacles, or changes in speed well in advance.
  • Avoid sudden braking or swerving—smooth moves keep the group together.
  • When singling out (riding single file), the outside rider gently drops back behind the inside rider.
  • If you have a problem (bike, clothing, etc.), safely move to the back of the group.
  • Keep your place in the rotation, and if you don’t want to lead, signal and rotate promptly when your turn comes.

A few common calls you’ll hear:
“Car front,” “Car back,” “Hole,” “Gravel,” “Sharp bend,” “Stopping,” and “Single out.”

HELMET AND RULES

In Spain, helmets are mandatory outside built-up areas—it’s a simple step to protect yourself. Also, using handheld devices or listening to music through headphones while riding is prohibited, so your attention stays focused on the road and the ride.

INSURANCE – PEACE OF MIND

Accidents are rare, but they can happen even to the most cautious riders. One of the conditions of partaking in a Ciclos Major Cycling Holiday is that you have good travel insurance before you arrive, ideally one that covers cycling-related incidents. Spending a little extra can make all the difference if you need private medical care or emergency support.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

We equip every guest with a handy emergency card containing all the essential contact numbers. Should you have an accident, your guide will assist immediately. For serious injuries, professional medical help will be called without delay.

Plus, our support vehicle is always ‘to hand’ for mechanical or medical backup, so you’ll be looked after by someone who knows exactly what to do.

PROTECT YOUR BIKE & BELONGINGS

Mallorca is wonderful but, like all popular destinations, you should keep an eye on your bike during coffee or lunch stops. Rental bikes usually cover damage, but not theft. Similarly, safeguard your valuables—don’t leave anything visible in a hired car, and keep your bags close in busy markets or towns.

YOUR SAFETY, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Ultimately, staying safe on your Mallorca adventure is a shared effort. Look after yourself, support your fellow riders, respect other road users, and enjoy every moment of your ride with peace of mind.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Mallorca—where the sun shines, the roads beckon, and your next great cycling holiday or triathlon camp awaits, safely and spectacularly.
